In 1969, Neil Armstrong took the title of First Man on the Moon; Sesame Street debuted; and hundreds of thousands flocked to the legendary Woodstock music festival. That same year, two high school students with a passion for music, started a band that continues to be treasured today. Louis A. McCall, Sr. and Michael Cooper formed Project Soul; a band that would later have 7 members, produce 14 albums, and a string of Top Ten hits on the Billboard charts. That band cooked up in the minds of two teenagers, would eventually become known as Con-Funk-Shun. Read more

January marks the beginning of a new year, and of greater things to come. It is the evolution of forward movement in all facets of life. From this writer’s perspective, every New Year causes me to be particularly mindful of artists who have become legends, both in life and even more so in death. My thoughts become even more overpowered in remembrance of the contributions Ohio musicians have made during years gone by.
